Japanese Stab Binding Sketchbooks

This past weekend, 8 students joined Debbie Wachel to learn Japanese Stab Binding. Students each made one book and went home with all the tools and materials to make two more.

They learned the essentials of making sketchbooks/notebooks starting with a simple and elegant Japanese Stab Binding book.

This class included complete kits to make 3 traditional Japanese Stab Binding books. All the required specialty tools were included for students to take home.

Debbie started with a brief history of these versatile Japanese books, bookbinding basics, and tool review. Students followed step-by-step instructions and everyone went home with a completed book. Debbie also gave students nstructions for Noble and Tortoise Shell bindings so that students had the option to making their remaining books with different binding types.
