classes & camps for kids & Teens

We offer the following art classes & camps for kids and teens and we are always adding more. Check back often to see new offerings.

CLASSES: Students sign up month to month for ongoing classes. Classes run September through June although students can start up at any time. We know life gets busy. You are free to stop taking the ongoing classes and start up again as your schedule allows.

CAMPS: Camps are different from ongoing classes in that the camps are for a limited time, usually winter break, spring break and summer camps. Camps are taught by Cloud 9 instructors and by visiting instructors.

These classes will help young artists to explore their creative spirit and build up their confidence as artists. Through various mediums and fun art projects, students will get to refine their art skills in an encouraging and focused environment. Students will be introduced to simple art vocabulary and concepts such as basic color theory, composition, and design.

Designed to give teens the skills, encouragement and environment they need to explore and develop their natural creativity with an emphasis on fine art skills. Focus on drawing from life, contemporary art and keeping a sketchbook. Students will learn about classical art techniques and apply them to contemporary art. In this class students will gain the skills to capture the world around them and infuse it with their imagination.

Beginning watercolors for Adults & Teens

Exploring watercolor with a splash of mixed media. Lynnea will guide students through step by step projects to help master the joy of painting with watercolors. Beginners and intermediates are welcomed.

Acrylics are a very versatile media bright, luminous colors, ease of use, and infinite techniques make acrylic painting a boundless, creative choice. Whether you are intrigued by acrylic’s potential, or have worked in acrylic for years, this class has something for everyone!

We will cover the basics of composition, light & shadow, color harmony, and perspective. You will have the opportunity to paint a variety of subjects. We will delve into some of the alternative techniques acrylics has to offer: washes, layering, dripping, sponging, spraying, textured mediums, collage, etc! This ongoing, monthly class will focus on learning to observe and depict animals. We will delve into the different overall classes and learn to draw and paint them in different styles. Live animals will visit periodically!

Autumn Leaves for Adults & Teens

Exploring space and textures in watercolor. Come for a day of creating beautiful abstract textures and backgrounds that can then be transformed into autumn-themed subjects through positive and negative painting. We’ll also explore color dominance, contrast and edge treatments. These techniques work equally well for those who like to experiment playfully and those who prefer a more detailed approach to their paintings.

Appropriate for all levels except complete beginners.

INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLORS FOR ADULTS & TEENS

The theme for this workshop is “rust and wood." Watercolor students will discover the many different looks of rust by itself or connected to wood. We will experiment with multi media, color and textures to create the illusion of rust, while learning how to create the look of old wood with rust.  Students will have a variety of images to close from for their class projects. The instructor will provide plenty of exercises and assistance in helping you master painting rust and wood.

It's a myth that artists can set up a studio and just stay there creating great work until they get discovered. This workshop sheds light on the the business side of being an artist and builds the skills to take your artwork to the next level.
