Printmaking with Emily Brown

Last weekend, Emily Brown offered a one day workshop for adults to explore printmaking.

Here Emily shares some details about her day with 8 budding printmakers!

We started our all day adult printmaking workshop with an introduction to our tools.

The first project was to make different textures and values with each of our different carving tools on the same block. I've found this is the best way to find the strengths and weaknesses of each gouge, especially for first time printmakers. Then we tiled them to make interesting patterns.

Next, we tested out our carve tools on a small daisy. Check out how different they turned out! We all carved from the same image using the same tools.

After lunch we regrouped to work on our greeting card design. Some people brought in their own designs and some used images provided. Everyone went home with hand carved, hand printed greeting cards.

The day flew by! I'm already searching my calendar for when I can do it again. So. Much. Fun.

Keep your eye on our Adult art classes page to see when Emily will offer her next printmaking workshop.
