If you’ve ever traveled and spent your time experiencing and exploring, chances are you took pictures to capture memories of your trip. Travel journaling allows you to choose significant moments of the trip to draw and annotate and create a personal visual memory for you and others to enjoy. The process of creating is a big plus too!

Maybe you brought a sketchbook with you on your trip and got some sketches done, or not. A travel journal can be worked on before, during, and after any trip. A page or two can be enough to mark the event, or a whole sketchbook can be devoted to the topic.

This 6-week workshop will take you through some of the ways to start your travel journaling and record those memories. You should have photos from a trip you’ve taken that you’d like to add to your travel journal. This workshop will allow you to learn about ink and watercolor and drawing techniques, materials, ideas and strategies to travel journaling and will give plenty of time to work on your journal.

All skill levels welcome.

Suggested Supplies:

A sketchbook that works well with watercolors (I like the Stillman & Birn soft-cover 8” x 10” or hardcover 8.25” x 11.5” Zeta series (very smooth heavy paper), or Beta series (less smooth but very nice for watercolor) or Strathmore Watercolor sketchbooks, but they're not required), drawing tools (pencils, pens with water resistant ink, and erasers) and watercolors. This workshop does require that you work from your own photos and memorabilia (receipts, ticket stubs, labels) that you may have.

Location Note:

For the immediate future until May 2020, we will be connecting to each other through a virtual conference platform called Zoom. Zoom is free and you do not need to make an account to attend a meeting (class). I will send you a link with a password that can be used for every session.

We will meet online for class every week for two hours. In our first class we will decide when to schedule an optional 30-minute check-in mid-week “office hours” to ask any questions that may have come up.  There will also be access to videos of my process available to look at your convenience.
