Comic Book Workshop: Writing a story
Saturday, May 23 10am-11:30am
If you ever wanted to get started writing comics this is the best way to start. This is the first class in my 4 part Comic Book Workshop Series. In this class, you will learn all about writing your very own comic book story. Writing a story meant for a visual medium is pretty different, so we learn all about what works, and what doesn’t. Students will learn about using arc to create epic stories or even how to make real-life events more cinematic. Together with the class, we will workshop our stories and get inspired by one another.
Comic Book Workshop: Character Design
Saturday, May 30 10am-11:30am
Characters are the life and soul of comics, they are what breathes life into the stories we create. This is the second class in my 4 part Comic Book Workshop Series, this time it’s all about the characters. If you have ever written a story it probably included characters, but how do we bring these characters to life for our comic? Students will learn all about the character design methods used at companies like Dinsey and Pixar to draw your own characters. We will use techniques like shape and color psychology, body language, and dynamic posing to create fun and easy to recognize cast of characters.
Comic Book Workshop: Storyboarding your comic
Saturday, June 6 10am -11:30am
You have a story and a great cast of characters, now what? Before jumping in and painstakingly drawing all your panels you have to plan ahead to set yourself up for success. Storyboarding is the process of drawing yourself little thumbnail-sized versions of your larger comic, think of it as your roadmap for when you draw your comic. This is the third class in my 4 part Comic Book Workshop Series and in this workshop, students will learn all about creating dynamic compositions, and how to break up your story up the panel by panel. By the end of this workshop, students will be ready to sit down and start drawing their comics.
Comic Book Workshop Series: Putting it All Together
Saturday, June 13 10am -11:30am
This is the last class in my 4 part Comic Book Workshop Series where I introduce students to the supplies and methods that comic-book artists use to create our favorite works. Not only will students get introduced to the best ways to share their comic with readers but they will also have worktime to get started on creating their comic. Work alongside other students and ask questions on how to problem solve any challenges that might crop up when creating your comic.
Supplies: sketchbook, nice drawing paper, pencils, microns (or any pen you prefer), coloring medium of your choice, and a ruler
