From the instructor, Laurie Kathleen Clark":

As a child, one of my most favored books was "The Secret Garden". Next to "The Velveteen Rabbit", it is the most tattered book in my library from all the love it got. This year long class will be offered month to month and begin with a short demonstration and discussion about all facets of keeping an illustrated journal. After the demonstrations, there will be time for working on your own journal during class with help at the ready in an open studio format.

Each month will have a theme and the discussions will build from the first session through subsequent sessions over the course of a year. Each session will be offered independently, no need to commit to a year nor take each class offered.

The only "homework" will be in the form of prompts or ideas to get you started with the notion of holding each other accountable to creating a habit.

During the growing season and good weather, some demonstrations will be filmed directly outside in nature with some bonus offerings for in person live sessions and garden tours if interested.

First Month - September 10, 2023

Discussion and examples of journal pages and spreads, what type of journals work best for mixed media, how and where to collect quotes, verses and poetry.

Demonstration: painting or drawing while outside in your garden.

Students will have time to work in class and ask questions, especially about setting an intention, committing to regular entries in the journal and tips for getting "unstuck.”
